Phase one  and two of Cannon Cemetery Project has been completed with 140 headstones leveled. We have been invited to come back to this historic cemetery in what used to be Cannon, TX, just outside of Van Alstyne, TX, in Grayson County . The above photos are before pictures.Once the entire project is finished, after photos will be published.

The Texas Historical Marker reads:

"Elijah Cannon, his eleven sons, and slaves moved from South Carolina to Texas in 1852 and settled nearby. In 1874 the family graveyard was included in land deeded by O.W. Cannon as a community burial place. The oldest documented grave is that of ten-year-old Nancy J. Bowen in 1857. An Adjacent section was established for former slaves and the earliest known burials of those are of  Billy and Glory Boyd in August 1880. Among the more than 700 graves are those of pioneer settlers, veterans of several wars, and fraternal organization. The cemetery continues to serve the area.  1996"

NTCP has a book titled Cannon Cemetery Inscription written and compiled by Donna Nell Hill and Burles Hall Allen. This book has a lists of people interred in this cemetery.
